Personality Testing in Philadelphia, PA
Real insight into the patterns that keep showing up.
Clinical personality assessments for adults, teens, and kids (8+). Diagnostic clarity, treatment planning, and the kind of self-understanding that actually changes things. Insurance options, payment plans, and retroactive reimbursement available, in Philadelphia and online across Pennsylvania.

"Why does this keep happening?"
Same conflict, different relationship. Same workplace dynamics, different employer. Same Sunday-night dread, decade after decade. Your therapist keeps gently pointing at a pattern. You can see it too. You just can’t quite name it.
Or maybe you’ve collected diagnoses over the years that don’t quite fit, or fit too generically. Anxiety. Depression. Maybe ADHD. Maybe trauma. The pieces are there but the picture doesn’t connect, and the treatment never feels like it’s targeting the right thing.
Or maybe you’re just serious about understanding yourself in a real way. Not for entertainment. Because actual self-knowledge changes how you move through your life.
At Daisy + Co. Therapy® in Philadelphia, PA, personality testing gives you a real picture of the patterns underneath, with the kind of clarity that makes therapy and self-understanding actually land.

Why Choose Personality Testing & Assessment?
Personality testing is more than a five-minute online quiz that tells you you’re an INTJ. A thorough clinical assessment looks at emotional functioning, defense mechanisms, interpersonal patterns, coping styles, mood and anxiety presentations, and the clinical patterns that show up across different parts of your life. The goal isn’t to pin a label on you. The goal is to understand what’s actually shaping how you experience the world, so what you do next fits the real you.
At Daisy + Co. Therapy®, our psychological testing in Philadelphia gives you:
- Clarity. A real picture of emotional patterns, defenses, and the dynamics that keep showing up.
- Language. Words for the experiences you've had a hard time describing on your own.
- Direction. Personalized recommendations for therapy, treatment planning, and the kinds of supports most likely to help.
- A report you can read. APlain language, not jargon. Useful for you, and useful for any provider you choose to share it with.
Whether you’re trying to clarify what’s actually going on, refine a treatment plan, or understand the patterns you keep tripping over, personality testing gives you a foundation to work from.

Who We Test
Personality Testing for Adults in Philadelphia
The person who's collected diagnoses that don't quite fit. The one whose therapist keeps pointing at a pattern. The professional whose work conflicts feel weirdly familiar across jobs.
Adult personality assessments clarify the emotional patterns underneath what you keep noticing, so therapy and treatment can target the right thing. Many adults pair an evaluation with adult therapy afterward.
Personality Testing for Teens
Teen personality assessments clarify clinical questions when symptoms are complex: distinguishing mood from anxiety, understanding interpersonal patterns, or guiding treatment when standard approaches haven't quite landed. Testing pairs well with the kind of therapy for teens that fits a specific clinical picture.
Personality Testing for Kids (Ages 8+)
We test kids ages 8 and up when emotional or clinical questions are complex enough to need careful assessment. The goal is clarification for treatment planning, not labeling a developing kid. Kids needing ongoing support can also access therapy for kids in Philadelphia.

What Personality Testing Can Help You Understand
Symptoms overlap. Treatment doesn’t, exactly. Personality testing helps clarify the underlying drivers so the work you do actually targets the right thing. Some clients leave with a clearer picture of anxiety or trauma patterns instead of (or alongside) what they came in for.
Not just symptoms, but the deeper dynamics: how you handle conflict, what triggers shutdowns, what defenses come up under stress, what shows up in close relationships. Testing names these clearly so they stop feeling random.
Insight-oriented, skills-based, trauma-focused, attachment-focused. Different patterns respond to different approaches. Testing helps narrow the field instead of making you cycle through three therapists to find out.
Findings translate into specific recommendations for goals, treatment focus, and supports. Useful whether you’re starting therapy, switching, or going deeper with a current therapist.
Let’s get you a real picture.
Personality Evaluation in Philadelphia, PA
What's Inside a Personality Evaluation
Our personality assessment process is thorough, evidence-based, and designed to be as low-stress as possible. Personality testing tends to surface a lot, which is the point. We pace it carefully and write findings in language that lands instead of overwhelms.
Initial Consultation
A free 20-minute conversation to figure out whether testing is the right move, what your goals are, and which type of evaluation fits.
Intake & Background Gathering
Detailed questionnaires, history, current concerns, and (when relevant) input from current providers. We want the full picture, not a single snapshot.
Standardized Testing Sessions
The actual testing. This typically includes objective personality measures like the MMPI-3 or PAI, plus measures for related concerns (mood, anxiety, trauma, attention, interpersonal patterns) when relevant. Sessions can take place in person at our Philadelphia office or virtually across Pennsylvania, depending on the type of testing involved.
Careful Scoring & Interpretation
This is the part nobody sees but everyone benefits from. We integrate test results with history, observations, and clinical judgment so the report tells a real story instead of just listing scale scores.
Written Report & Feedback Session
You receive a comprehensive written report in plain language, plus a feedback session to walk through findings together, ask questions, and talk about next steps. The report is structured so any current or future provider can use it.

Personality Testing FAQs
How do I know if I need personality testing?
If you’re noticing recurring patterns you can’t quite name, collecting diagnoses that don’t quite fit, or trying to figure out what kind of therapy will actually help, personality testing is worth considering. Many people come to it on their therapist’s recommendation. Others come on their own, looking for clarity that talking alone hasn’t given them.
What's the difference between personality testing and a personality quiz like Myers-Briggs?
Pretty much everything. Online quizzes (Myers-Briggs, the Big Five, Enneagram, attachment style tests) sort you into categories based on self-reported preferences, and they can be fun starting points. Clinical personality testing uses validated, research-based instruments administered and interpreted by a licensed psychologist to assess emotional functioning, defenses, coping patterns, and clinical presentations. The output is a comprehensive written report, not a graphic for your Instagram story.
Will personality testing diagnose a personality disorder?
Sometimes, but that’s not always the goal. Personality testing can identify personality features and patterns, including those associated with personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder (BPD), when relevant. More often, the focus is broader: clarifying emotional patterns, mood and anxiety presentations, trauma history, and defense mechanisms to inform treatment. We’ll talk through your specific question during your free consultation.
What's the difference between personality testing and the other testing you offer?
ADHD testing centers on attention and executive function. Autism testing centers on communication, sensory, and social patterns. IQ testing measures cognitive abilities. Personality testing centers on emotional functioning, defense mechanisms, interpersonal patterns, and clinical presentations. We’ll match the evaluation type to your actual question or questions during your consultation.
How long does personality testing take?
Most personality testing is completed across 2 to 3 appointments, including an intake, the testing itself, and a feedback meeting where we review your results together. Occasionally additional testing is recommended to fully answer your questions, and your evaluator will let you know if that’s the case. We’ll give you a clear timeline for your written report at your intake, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Can personality testing be done online in Pennsylvania?
Yes, most of it. Many personality measures can be completed virtually, which makes personality testing one of the more accessible evaluations to do remotely for clients anywhere in Pennsylvania. Some components may still benefit from in-person observation. We’ll figure out what fits during your consultation. Learn more about our online services.
How much does personality testing cost in Philadelphia?
Personality testing at our Philadelphia practice is $1,500, with a 20% reduced rate available when testing is administered by a pre-licensed clinician under supervision. Based on clinical need, your evaluator may recommend adding cognitive testing ($800), which would be discussed and approved by you before anything moves forward. We’ll walk through what fits during your free 20-minute consultation, along with insurance and payment options, so there are no surprises before you commit.
Is personality testing covered by insurance in Philadelphia?
Sometimes. Coverage depends on your specific insurance plan, not just the insurance company. Personality testing tied to a diagnostic question or treatment planning is more often covered than testing for general self-understanding, but coverage is still inconsistent. We offer two routes to help:
- Pre-authorization billing. If your plan covers psychological testing and you can secure a pre-authorization, we may be able to bill insurance directly. This route takes longer to set up and can come with limitations on what testing we can include, but it works for many clients who are willing to navigate those parameters.
- Retroactive partial reimbursement. If you’d like to seek reimbursement for the portion your plan covers, we’ll submit claims to your insurance on your behalf after testing. We don’t know of another mental health practice in the Philadelphia area offering this, and we built it specifically because the standard “here’s a superbill, good luck” approach fails most people.
Our team is happy to verify benefits and talk through your options before you commit. For more on fees and insurance generally, see our FAQs.
Do you offer payment plans for personality testing?
Yes. We offer a split payment option so the cost of an evaluation can be spread over time instead of paid in one lump sum. If testing is recommended at the end of your intake appointment, we’ll walk through your situation and figure out which payment option makes the most sense for you.
Will my therapist see the results?
Only if you want them to. The report belongs to you. Many clients choose to share their personality testing results with their current therapist or psychiatrist because it helps focus the work, but that’s always your call.
At what age can my child be tested?
We test kids ages 8 and up. Younger than that, personality is still developing in ways that make personality assessment less reliable. For complex emotional or clinical questions in younger kids, a different kind of evaluation through a practice specializing in early childhood is usually a better fit. Kids who need support in the meantime can access therapy for kids.

Life After Personality Testing: The Doable Edition
Getting clear answers about your patterns can be a strange relief. Some of what you suspected gets named. Some of what you didn’t expect comes into focus. Either way, you walk out with more to work with than you walked in with.
As you move forward after testing, you may notice shifts like:
- A clearer story about the patterns you've been noticing, instead of vague theories or self-blame.
- Language for experiences you've had a hard time describing.
- Therapy that targets the right thing, instead of cycling through approaches and hoping one lands.
- Better understanding of your defenses, your coping styles, and the dynamics that show up in close relationships.
- More self-trust, knowing what you're working with instead of guessing.
- A sense of direction, with practical next steps for treatment, support, or daily life.
Personality isn't a flaw to fix. It's a pattern to understand. Testing helps you read yours instead of fighting it.
